Case Study 4: Priya and Raj’s Journey to Rebuilding Trust

Situation/Challenge:
Priya and Raj, a married couple from Delhi in their early 30s, sought help as they were constantly arguing. Priya felt neglected due to Raj’s long working hours, while Raj felt Priya didn’t understand the pressures of his job. Their relationship was strained, and they were considering separation.

My Approach in the Coaching Session:

  1. Open Communication: We started with separate sessions to understand both perspectives without judgment.
  2. Identifying Patterns: I helped them identify unhelpful communication patterns, such as blame and defensiveness.
  3. Building Empathy: I introduced exercises to help them express their feelings constructively and listen to each other without interrupting.
  4. Quality Time: I suggested they set aside one evening a week as a “date night” without distractions.
  5. Appreciation Rituals: I asked each partner to write one positive thing about the other every day for a week.

Action Plan:

  • Implement weekly check-ins to discuss feelings and resolve minor conflicts.
  • Use “I feel” statements instead of accusations during arguments.
  • Take turns planning date nights.

Outcome:
Within two months, Priya and Raj reported fewer arguments and more mutual understanding. They felt closer and decided to renew their vows on their anniversary.
